Need a clock tab with seconds while you work, study, present, or check an event time? The online digital clock with seconds shows this device’s time, with seconds and the date. There is no sign-up and no account. The reading is the clock on the page. The browser tab label is a separate line, and on Clockbeam it does not change every second.
What a clock tab with seconds displays
A clock tab with seconds shows hours, minutes, and seconds. On the online digital clock with seconds, seconds and the date are on when you first open the page, and the format is 12-hour until you change it. The digits update on the page. The tab above them does not become a second clock.
Seconds can be turned off in Customize. The control is labeled Seconds. When it is off, the minimal and flip readouts drop the seconds field, and the analog face hides the second hand. The choice is saved in this browser.
The date line, when Date is on, is a short weekday, an English month abbreviation, the day, and the year, then the time zone name and the current offset. A line has the shape Tue, Oct 20, 2026. It is not a pair of numbers such as 04/05. Date is switched in Customize. The default is on.
Several tabs can be open at once. This page can advance its clock every second and still leave the tab label as the site name. If you need the second, look at the page.
Can the seconds appear in the browser tab title?
A webpage can change the text in a browser tab by setting document.title. MDN describes that property as the title of the document, including the title shown in a window or tab: Document.title on MDN.
Clockbeam does not set that property while the clock runs. The tab title comes from the page metadata in the site layout. The homepage title is “Online Digital Clock with Seconds”, and the layout template adds “ | Clockbeam”, so the tab reads Online Digital Clock with Seconds | Clockbeam. The fullscreen clock uses “Fullscreen Clock for Classrooms”. The flip clock uses “Online Flip Clock with Seconds”. The analog clock uses “Online Analog Clock with Seconds”. Each of those titles is fixed. None of them is replaced with a live value such as 10:14:08.
The page clock can move from 10:14:08 to 10:14:09 while the tab label stays the same. A site that wants seconds in the tab has to update document.title on purpose. Clockbeam’s clock pages do not.
How accurate is an online clock with seconds?
A clock with seconds is a visual reference. It is not a certified timekeeping instrument. Clockbeam reads the time on the visitor’s device. It does not add a synchronization service, and it does not claim atomic-clock accuracy. After the page has loaded, the hour does not come from the network. A slow connection can delay the first paint. It does not supply a second time source.
The time value and the moment the browser paints the screen are separate. A background tab can update less often and then catch up when you return. A sleeping laptop stops the page. If the hour is wrong, check the device clock, the time zone in Customize, and daylight-saving settings on the device. City offsets come from the browser’s time zone data.
For regulated work, an examination that names a source, or any task that needs certified timing, use the source the organizer names. NIST Time.gov is an official U.S. time reference. Clockbeam is not NIST and is not affiliated with NIST.
How the clock chooses the time and the format
A 12-hour clock with seconds uses AM and PM. 02:05:09 PM is the same moment a 24-hour clock shows as 14:05:09. The 24-hour form drops AM and PM. Hours, minutes, and seconds on Clockbeam are written with a leading zero.
The clock opens in 12-hour time. A button on the clock is labeled 12h or 24h for the format in use, and clicking it switches. Customize has the same 12-hour and 24-hour choice. The choice is saved in this browser.
The zone is this device unless you pick another zone in Customize. Moving seconds with the wrong hour usually mean the device zone. The 24 hour time clock chart converts 00:00 through 23:59 if you need the written form beside the display.
Web developers often format a date and time with the Intl.DateTimeFormat() constructor. Those options can request 12-hour or 24-hour output, a date style, and a time zone. Clockbeam’s date line does not follow that path for month-day order. It always uses an English month name, then the day, then the year.
Which clock display is best for a browser tab or workspace?
The four displays are compared in clock display styles. Use the minimal numeric clock when you need the exact second, and open flip, analog, or scenic when the screen’s look matters more than the fastest reading. The fullscreen clock is the same device time, larger, for a projector or a second screen.
What to check when the seconds stop updating
When the seconds stop, start with the page and the device.
- Look at another tab or application and see whether the device is responding.
- Bring the clock tab to the foreground if it has been inactive.
- Check the device time zone, and the zone in Customize, if the display moves but the hour is wrong.
- Reload the page if the clock stays frozen.
- Read the tab title only as the page name. A fixed tab title does not mean the page clock has stopped.
Background tabs can get fewer chances to paint. A sleeping laptop stops the page. A frozen display and a wrong hour are different problems. Keep screen on asks the browser for a screen wake lock so the display is less likely to sleep. If the browser cannot hold one, the button says Screen lock unavailable. A closed laptop still will not keep the clock visible. The fullscreen clock for a classroom covers that control on a projector.
When a clock tab with seconds is useful
A clock tab with seconds helps when you want the current second in the browser and you do not want to install software. Presentations, online events, study sessions, exam practice, remote work, and ordinary time checks are the usual cases.
A clock does not measure a duration you chose. For a 25-minute study block or a fixed interval, use the online timer or the Pomodoro timer. The timer counts down. The clock shows the time of day.
Clockbeam is free. It requires no account. It follows the device clock. Keep the tab open on an awake device when you need the display to stay active. The complete guide to free online clocks and time tools maps the other pages.
